Don’t miss the Spiritual Gifts Wrap-Up this Sunday evening, January 29th at 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  We will gather with others who share the same spiritual gifts and learn practical ways to use our gifts to the glory of God.  A delicious meal will be provided.  Hope to see you, there.

Great things are happening across the Ardmore District!  Churches are growing and ministries expanding. God’s Spirit is moving all over our churches!  Our new Idea Work Ships will be designed so we can learn and network with one another. Meeting in small groups of all ages we will spend time learning from one another, sharing dreams for ministry and praying together.  This will be a high-point of the entire day!!  DO NOT MISS THIS SESSION!!

A special offering will be received for the District Youth Camp Program and Scholarships. Help us to reach more young people through the Cross Point Camp and Growing in Grace.

Pastor David’s Book Club meets each fourth Thursday of the month.  The date for January is the 26th.  He will continue with the Ragamuffin Gospel and everyone is invited.  The class begins promptly at 12:00 and will adjourn before 1:00pm.

The Ragamuffin Gospel explores what it means to live out the Grace of God in our lives.  It is a very uplifting book and you will be enriched by your involvement in the class and the book.

Pastor David will be leading us in a twelve session study of the Book of Revelation beginning Monday January 9th at 6:30 pm.  The place to meet will depend up on the number of participants enrolled.

Please Sign up before Sunday January 8th.  The study book for this course will be $12 and will be ordered on the 9th.

The Evangelism Committee will NOT meet on the previously agreed date.  The new date is MONDAY, JANUARY 30th at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Class room.

Hour of Power Bible Study is for anyone who desires to learn better how to study their Bible.  Class meets on Monday at Noon in the Disciple Class room.  Ginger Daniel is leading the class.

Ginger will begin a new discussion on fasting and how it can ignite your prayer life.

Ginger is an amazing teacher/facilitator.  If you are not currently attending her class, consider joining the class on fasting.  The date to begin is January 9th.

The Singles Bible study begins again on January the 3rd.  The class meets at 7:00 pm in the Disciple Classroom.  The class is led by Pastor Don with plenty of help from everyone who attends.

The class includes a DVD presentation that highlights a passage of scripture and the geographical setting of the passage.  This first week will be a trip to Caesarea Philippi.  The scripture is from Luke 8, Matthew chapter 16 and various other passages.

We will be re-presenting the material from January 3rd on January 10th and conclude our discussion of the presentation.

Singles of all ages are invited to attend and enjoy the fellowship.

Have you opened all your gifts?  On January 1st Pastor David will begin a Church wide study of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  This is the outline for each Sunday.

January 1.  On this day we will gather to worship at 10:00 am.

January  8. This lesson will focus on scriptural texts that share with us the spiritual gifts that God has given us.

January 15. On this day we will encourage you to hand out a copy of the spiritual gifts and go over each one on the list.

January 22. On this day we will ask you to invite each person in your class or group to take the spiritual gift inventory.  The goal is to discover each member’s three gifts.

January 29. On this day we will encourage you to share with the group what their three spiritual gifts are and begin to pray about how they can be utilized in the church.

Nashville, Tenn.:  The Commission on the General Conference has selected “Make Disciples of Jesus Christ to Transform the World” as the theme for The United Methodist Church’s 2012 General Conference, scheduled for April 24-May 4 in Tampa, Fla.

The theme echoes the mission of The United Methodist Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world as a way of aligning the General Conference with the denomination’s central mission—so that the conference is not a one-time event, but a part of the ongoing ministry of the church.

A committee of representatives from the Commission on the General Conference and the Council of Bishops was charged with making recommendations for a theme and logo to the full commission for approval. Once a theme was selected, the United Methodist Publishing House’s design team developed logo proposals for consideration.

“We sensed that people across the church are longing for clarity about our mission, and we believed that the theme of the General Conference should reinforce and celebrate that mission,” said Jim Harnish, a member of the commission and chair of the committee. “We hope that the Spirit of God will use this theme to unite and energize our people to fulfill this mission and enable us to set clear priorities for the use of our resources.”

The logo which complements the theme depicts a graphic image of the cross (representing the presence of Jesus Christ at the center of our mission) with circles extending from the cross (expressing energy and movement into ministry in the world) imposed against a bright sun and blue water (representing Tampa, Fla. as the conference site). The imperative verbs “make” and “transform” underscore the urgency of the mission and call for active response.

The Commission also announced that the official General Conference 2012 website will be http://gc2012.umc.org. The site is expected to be available by early fall.  A graphic of the logo and a more detailed interpretation of the theme is available here.

About General Conference 2012
General Conference is the top policy-making body of The United Methodist Church. The 1000-member assembly meets once every four years to consider revisions to church law, as well as adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy and economic issues. It also approves plans and budgets for churchwide programs for the next four years. The 2012 meeting will take place April 24-May 4 at the Tampa Convention Center.
